Rockets Red Glare

I never do it, I've always said I'd be terrified to do it....but I did.

Yes, it's true. I've gone and done it.

I've written a guest post for my friend Moonspun.

The day...THE DAY!!!!....that I decided to get my rump in gear and get some posts written, she emailed asking for a guest post.

It was a sign.

And you can't ignore signs. It's illegal.

Really. :-)

So, this week's mostly wordless Wednesday has been canceled. In it's place, a guest post.

What better way to jump start my motivation than to be handed a homework assignment, of sorts.

Go over and give it a read....and while you're there, look around, make yourself comfortable (but please, no feet on the coffee table, ok?).

(And yes, people really DO live in Nebraska!!!!! I promise...cross my heart and hope to....well, you get the idea!!) :-) :-)

Ghosts of Weekends Past: #4 (to be cont)

04/25/10 cont

So...we've been out for breakfast, we've tried on silly hats and bought a bag of books.....

The weekend before was the last official week of league bowling, but this weekend was the week the league bowlers show up to collect their winnings (we actually placed in the top 15, 11th or so I think.....), and bowl in a 9 pin no tap afternoon.

It's also an excuse for many bowlers to drink to their hearts content.

Steve and I ran home to feed the dogs between bowling and heading downtown to the Worm. When we got back to the alley, this is the condition they were in.

And it was only the beginning of the evening!!!!

(to be cont - one more time)

Ghosts of Weekends Past: #4

Like sands through the hour glass...so are the weekends of my past.... Well, at least the past month (or so). :-)

Yes...here I am....yet again, telling you that I'm sorry I've been absent as of late. Apologizing for my lack of posting.

It's true, I've a a blog slacker.
(hanging head in shame) :-) :-) :-)

But, dear reader, I've returned.....I'm in front of my computer.....getting ready to fill your reader with a plethora of posts, a bushel of bloggy goodness, an abundance of....of......well, you get the idea.

OK, you've probably noticed that I've skipped back in time? As I was digging through my camera bag, I found a memory card. I experienced the same feeling I used to get when I was digging through a drawer, and found an undeveloped roll of film.

What the heck is on this thing??

Luckily, unlike with the film, a mere minute later I could find out what was on it.

And boy am I glad!!!!!

You see, my friends, another one of the many reason I stopped blogging for a while, was the concern I was getting from friends and family.

Concern, you ask?

Yes, concern.

It seems that my family and select friends were worried that myself, my hubby, and my close friends were becoming alcoholics. It turns out spending time at a bar = drunken debauchery. I've tried explaining to them that we always have at least one, but most of the time no fewer than two people who aren't drinking. Most of the time, between the four of us, we have MAYBE three drinks. That most of the time, there might only be one of us drinking at all. And (gasp) many times, NONE of us are.

You see, we happen to really dig the people at the Worm. And why wouldn't we?? They're awesome!!!!! (yes Nat, I'm talking about you my dear!!!!!)

So...now that I have that little sidebar out of the way....let's get back to the drunken debauchery....shall we??? (giggle, snort)

I say that because, well, this particular day was one of those times that there actually WAS some serious alcoholic consumption going on.

(ahem) Mot and Danny - yes, this post is for you!!

Thought I'd forgotten, didn't you? Oh no....not quite!!!!!

But wait....let me back up....I should probably start from the beginning....eh??? :-)

Sunday morning, last day of bowling. Actually, it was the week AFTER the last week of bowling. It was the day everyone in the league went to the alley to get their winnings, to bowl for fun....and, for some, to drink themselves into a complete and utter stupor. (giggle)

We got up that morning at met at...where? You guessed it....Leo's!!!!

My breakfast was WONDERFUL!!!!

Like I said, it was good. :-)

This picture cracks me up. Danny seems almost disgusted with how much food was placed in front of him.

He made a pretty good dent in it though.

Steve was like me.....breakfast didn't stand a chance. (the food is amazing!!!)

Mot's, on the other hand.........well, his breakfast gave me the willies. Hasbrowns, biscuits and gravy, with eggs on top. They call it the island.

You can also order the fantasy island....but I can't remember what else they add to the mix.

He did damage...but I think it won. :-)

After breakfast, we loaded up and headed out to do some mindless, wandering, Sunday shopping.

First we hit Garden Ridge. I was in the market for a rug for my closet project (yeah, like I said, this post is a little out of order). :-)

As we were walking towards the rug section, we apparently passed the hat section.

Not only did we pass the section, we stopped and spent a little time in it. (hehehehehe)

Great hat babe, but don't you know you can't wear white before memorial day??

(by the way folks, he's never going to let me take pictures of him again after this post)

They had sparkly cowboy hats in every color imaginable. (giggle)

What did we come here for again??? Oh yeah, a rug!!!

After Garden Ridge, we drove over to the bookstore.

And bought a few books. :-)

05/02/10 cont

After we got done playing ball with the dogs.....we left the house in search of retail therapy.

First stop was Shopko for some plants. They were having a sale, and there isn't one that far away from our house. We loaded up the truck FULL of stuff for both houses.

Then went back to our place to unload it all.

Big Lots was next. We needed to get pots and such for the plants we'd just purchased. Mot and I also picked up a grandfather clock for the living room...for $40. At Big Lots. Who knew?!?!

Then we went back to our place to unload it all.

After that, went to the local nursery literally right around the corner from our house.

Why? Well...we bought more pots than we had plants.

Then we went back to our place to unload it all.

Are you seeing a trend here. It's like buying 10 packs of hot dogs, and 8 packs of buns....then needing more buns for the two extra hot dogs...then needing more hot dogs for the 6 extra buns.

By now the neighbors have watched us unload a vehicle FULL of stuff.....for the third time in two hours.

:-)

It was then we realized the day was getting away from us, and we hadn't made it to the ONE place we'd intended to go that day.

"Welcome to the Hot Shops Art Center, an art center (approximately 92,000 square feet of space) consisting of art studios, showrooms and various gallery spaces, catering to the art community in and around the Omaha area."

It was one of their annual open houses...when you get to go into the artists studios where they work!!!!

They also had entertainment in the hallways as you walked through all three floors....from studio to studio.

Apparently while we'd been inside, a storm had com through.

A storm in Nebraska. No wayyyyy!!!!!!

We were getting hungry, and thought we'd hit a classic Omaha burger joint.

They weren't open.

So...we went to the Worm. :-)

Here is photographic evidence that we actually go there just to play cards sometimes. :-)

Everyone was very serious about their cards that night, apparently. :-)

05/02/10

We had nothing planned. It was one of our first Sundays without bowling league. Now what do we do??

Well...first we (the boys, Mot and Nej) met at our favorite diner for breakfast. Leo's!!!!

From there, we drove our two vehicles to our place, so we could leave one there, and drive together the rest of the afternoon.

Aren't we sweet?? :-)

Before we left, we played a little ball with Sam, our black lab puppy.

Danny: "OK Sam, heck with throwing you the ball....I'm going to kick it...with my boot!! Well....I'm going to TRY to kick it with my boot!"

Danny: "Take two."

Sam: "Retrieving the ball, retrieving the ball, I'm a lab, retrieving the ball."

Steve: "Thanks Sam. I'll kick it for you this time!!"

Sam: "Retrieving the ball, retrieving the ball, I'm a lab, retrieving the ball."

Steve: "What, you want me to throw it again?"

Sam: "Retrieving the ball, retrieving the ball, I'm a lab, retrieving the ball."

Mot: "My turn?"

Mot: "Well, go deep....this one is going to fly!!!"

Sam: "Hey dad, you were right, that one really flew! Right into the neighbors yard. And, the way you got over that fence was pretty cool...maybe I should try that?"

Mot: "Crap! Well, she's seen me do it once, I may as well come back over the same way!!"
