It's 2:30 am...Monday morning. I'm awake, but not sure why. I listen for rain, thunder.....any sounds of spring that might have brought me out of sleep.
Nothing.
In fact, the absence of sound is a little strange. It's a house built in the early 20's....it's noisy at times. The windows are open, but there aren't any sound from outside. No wind, no squirrels on the trees outside the window. No backfiring car, or loud truck.
I decide that since I'm awake, I may as well get up and walk to the bathroom. I look down to find my slippers. The room is pitch black except for the light from the alarm clock on my side of the bed. My slippers are black, but I can see two darker spots on the floor, and assume that's where I should aim my feet.
I slide my foot into one, and just as I'm about the slip the other on...it moves.
Fast.
Really fast.
What the......???
I aim my foot for where the slipper came to a rest.
It moves again.
I hear a noise from under the bed.
A growling, of sorts.
I smile....the puppy must not have gotten locked in her kennel, and she was laying just under the bed....chewing on my new slippers.
(sigh)
This is the second pair.
I reach my right hand down to grab the slipper from her mouth.
The slipper jerks away...and starts shaking back and forth.
There isn't going to be much slipper left by the time I get it from her!
I reach down to grab it again, and just as my fingers touch the fabric....something jumps out from under the bed, and grabs my other hand in it's mouth.
I feel sharp teeth sink into my skin.........yet it doesn't hurt.
I look down to see nothing but white teeth. No matter how hard I try to focus my eyes, I can't see the animal that owns those teeth.
I start to wonder why it doesn't yet hurt. I've done nothing to remove it.
I'm transfixed, staring, curious.....
I drop the slipper from my right hand, and reach over to touch the animal.
Then I wake up.

Exactly. Only insert zombies and Christmas trees, take out the slippers and puppies altogether and...Okay so not exaaaactly...Weird dreams are where it's at!
I had another one right behind it...(I was actually able to fall asleep after this one, if you can believe that). I'll have to post it as well. I can't believe I'm even functioning today after last night. :-)
EEK! No more chocolate before bed! ;)
You totally had me going there for a minute.
